The forest provides endless adventures. Kyle Canyon off US-95 is the Spring Mountain visitor gateway to the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. On the mountain, you’ll find numerous hiking trails and a challenging hiking trail to Mt. Charleston Peak.
Although there are fewer than 1000 year-round residents, Mt. Charleston real estate for sale includes both cabins and houses. The mountain has become a great luxury getaway destination for Las Vegas residents.
Currently, there is one resort with cabin rentals, over 200 campsites, and 150 picnic table spots for tourists to enjoy. Take a weekend or day jaunt to breathe in the pine trees and fresh air. You can also find your own magical spot to have lunch in the forest. Access to the mountain is rarely closed due to snow.
There is a Visitor Center at the bottom of the mountain hosted by the US Forest Service. The Mt. Charleston Visitor Center is very informative and provides visitors with area and hiking maps. If you plan to go hiking, research the area ahead of time online and remember to take water year-round.

The mountain experiences the same 310+ sunny days a year that Las Vegas has, but has a high of 80 degrees during the summer months. In July, Las Vegas’ average high temperature at Harry Reid International Airport is 104 degrees.
At 7800 feet, the hotel’s private rental log cabins average a July high of 79 degrees! Las Vegas (at the airport) has an average low temperature in February of 42 degrees, while the mountain’s average low is 20 degrees.
In contrast to the arid climate that most of the Mojave Desert experiences, the Peak has an average of 12 inches of rain. Las Vegas has under 4″ of rain a year at the airport. The average annual snowfall in The Village is 38 inches compared to Las Vegas, which has a 0-inch average.
Lee Canyon Ski and Snowboard Area
Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is home to the Lee Canyon Resort. You’ll find that the resort features fun for everyone. Visitors can go snowboarding, visit the tubing hill, or use a large snow play area minutes away beside the chalet.
The summit’s elevation is 11,916 feet, with numerous double-diamond black runs connecting to various intermediate and beginner runs. Lee Canyon has snow-making capabilities on 35% of the trails. Snow-making equipment is also ready in case of fire.
The 2021 Mt. Charleston Lodge Fire
In September 2021, a devastating fire destroyed the only hotel in town, including the restaurant and bar. With over 100 years of history, the fire was an emotional loss, especially for the area’s residents. The hotel, restaurant, and bar had a previous fire in the 1960s. It was rebuilt then and is now rebuilt again and beautifully replicated.
After the fire started in the 1960s, it took 45 minutes for the Las Vegas Fire Department to arrive. Shortly after the original Lodge’s fire, the town’s volunteer fire department was created. Their fire station is located nearby in the Village area.
Thankfully, a quick response from the local volunteer fire department prevented the 2021 fire from spreading to the Mount Charleston Lodge rental units, homes, or the surrounding forest. They know that the fire started in a storage room under the back deck.
