Located in the Spring Mountains, 45 minutes northwest of downtown Las Vegas you’ll find this beautiful Nevada mountain community. Nearby Las Vegas grocery and big box stores are just a few miles down the freeway after leaving the mountain. Despite its proximity to the desert, the mountain is a lush forest.

There is a stream running down the mountain through town. Red Rock Canyon is on the southwest corner of the mountain and Pahrump is on the backside. Cabins are the choice of housing in the area.

With cooler temperatures in the summer and winter sports and snow in the winter, cabins are used year-round. There is a large year-round community of residents as well as tourists and vacation home homeowners. When not in residence, many owners use their cabins as vacation rentals. Homes for sale and homes for rent on Mt. Charleston are in demand.

The Spring Mountain National Recreation Area

The forest provides endless adventures. Kyle Canyon off US-95 is the Spring Mountain visitor gateway to the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. On the mountain, you’ll find numerous hiking trails and a challenging hiking trail to Mt. Charleston Peak. Enjoy the pine trees and fresh air while finding your own magical spot to have lunch in the forest.

Although there are under 1000 year-round residents, Mt. Charleston real estate for sale is both cabins and houses. The mountain has become a great luxury getaway destination for Las Vegas residents. Currently, there is one resort with cabin rentals, over 200 campsites, and 150 picnic table spots for tourists to enjoy. Access to the mountain is rarely closed due to snow.

There is a Visitor Center at the bottom of the mountain hosted by the US Forest Service. The Mt. Charleston Visitor Center is very informational and provides visitors with area and hiking maps. If you plan to go hiking, research the area ahead of time online and remember to take water year-round.

Mt. Charleston Lodge Fire 2021

 mt charleston Cabins for saleIn September 2021, a devasting fire at the Mt. Charleston Lodge completely destroyed the restaurant and bar. With over 100 years of history, the lodge was also an emotional loss, especially for Mt. Charleston, NV residents. The lodge, restaurant, and bar had a previous fire in the 1960s. It was rebuilt then and will be rebuilt again.

After the fire in the 1960s started, it took 45 minutes for the Las Vegas Fire Department to arrive. Shortly after the lodge burned, the town’s volunteer fire department was created. Their fire station is located in the Mt. Charleston Village area.

Thankfully, due to a quick response from the local volunteer fire department, the 2021 fire didn’t spread to the Mt. Charleston Lodge rental cabins, homes, or surrounding forest. They know that the fire started in a storage room under the back deck.

Only a week after the fire, cabin rentals at the lodge re-opened for guests. Since there is no restaurant nearby the lodge cabins creating a problem for guests. Local homes, vacation rentals, and cabins for rent have filled the high demand.

There are different housing areas on Mt. Charleston. Real estate for sale can be a small rustic cabin for under $300,000. Luxury mountain homes for sale can go up to $7 million.

Downtown in the village, where the fire station is, has the oldest cabins for sale. Most have been modernized and remodeled. Mt. Charleston Village homes for sale are unique and back up to the stream that flows down the mountain.

Mount Charleston Cabin Rentals

Mount Charleston cabin rentals are in high demand year-round. Due to the extreme heat in the Las Vegas Valley during the summer, temperatures on the mountain are over 20 degrees cooler.

During the winter, there is considerable demand for cabin rentals during ski season and during the holidays. Investors maintain a high occupancy rate for both short and long-term Lee Canyon and Mt. Charleston cabin rentals.

On weekends with new snowfall, there will be a constant flow of visitors looking for snow fun. Chains are required during storms, but roads are plowed frequently. Lodge reservations and purchasing advance Lee Canyon lift tickets online is recommended due to social distancing. Besides Lee Canyon cabin rentals owned by investors and families, Lee Canyon Ski Area does not have cabin rentals.

The Mountain experiences the same 310+ sunny days a year that Las Vegas has, but it’s considerably cooler. In contrast, in July, Las Vegas’s average high temperature at Harry Reid International Airport is 104 degrees.

At 7800 feet, Mt. Charleston Lodge averages a July high of 79 degrees! Las Vegas (at the airport) has an average low temperature in February of 42 degrees, while the mountain’s average low is 20 degrees.

In contrast to the arid climate that most of Southern Nevada experiences, Mt. Charleston Lodge has an average of 9 inches of rain. Las Vegas has under 4″ of rain a year at the airport. The average annual snowfall at the Lodge is 38 inches compared to Las Vegas, which has a 0-inch average.

Lee Canyon Ski Area

Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is the home of Lee Canyon Resort and Ski Area. You’ll find that the Lee Canyon Ski Area features fun for everyone. Visitors can choose between skiing and snowboarding, a tubing hill, and a large snow play area beside the hotel.

The summit’s elevation is 11,916 feet, with numerous double-diamond black runs connecting to various intermediate and beginner runs. Lee Canyon has snow-making capabilities on 35% of the trails. Snow equipment is also ready in case of fire.
