Zip Code 89135 has to be the prettiest zip code in Las Vegas. The zip covers the Summerlin South and the mountains behind it. However, it also covers the back side of those same mountains. If they build on those hills, they’ll be a line.
Zip Code 89135 borders Charleston on the north, Haulapai on the east, and Blue Diamond on the South. It shares the highway driving to Red Rock Canyon and everything inside the loop. That includes the north side of Blue Diamond, a campground, a fire station, and an inactive mine on the hill.
This is mostly protected land by the BLM. The gypsum mine was purchased by a long-time hotel and casino owner many years ago. He has applied for a zoning change to build houses, and a building permit was turned down. I don’t think there has been a recent attempt for rezoning, however, I expect we will see one or 10 in the future.
Land south of Summerlin South was traded back to the Red Rock Conservation Area by the Howard Hughes Corporation. In exchange, they received the land west of the Summerlin Parkway and the 215 interchange, currently selling homes in Summerlin North.
