Zip Code 89178 is located in the southwesternmost part of Las Vegas. This area is home to Summerlin South from the Mesas Village and extends south to include part of Mountain’s Edge. The area south of Rhodes Ranch is also in the 89178 zip code. Rhodes Ranch is not.
Homes for sale in the 89178 zip code are newer. Most everything is under 20 years old, and Summerlin houses are mostly under 10 years old. The area is still developing commercial businesses. However, there are the basics, and everything else is “just up the street.” Houses in this area are mainly in master-planned communities, so it’s mostly pretty with parks and walking trails.
What is the problem with living in 89178? Dirt. Because commercial developments haven’t filled in on the busy streets, there is uncertainty about what will be built there. The other thing that is bothersome to some people is dirt and dust. Windy days cause dirt to become dust. We love this area, but our biggest pet peeve in the southern part of town is when streets go from 6 lanes to 4 to 2 to 4 with minimal signage. They cannot cut a street more than once every 5 years, so it’s almost done!
The 89178 zip code is home to Cowabunga Canyon Vegas. Wet-n-Wild is now Cowabunga Canyon, and you can use the Las Vegas or Henderson water park season passes in both locations. In front of Cowabunga Canyon in Summerlin is a beautiful park with a Summerlin aquatic center. There are signs up for a future mountain biking park touching Ft. Apache, located beside the park at Cowabunga on a mountain with an old mine. It’ll be fun!
